Meet Cabela!

Yes, like the hunting and fishing store! 🎣

Ms. Cabela has been with us since the fall of 2024. You haven’t seen much of her yet - but now she’s getting the spotlight! She’s a big black lab and extremely friendly. She loves people, dogs, kids, you name it. Unfortunately, Lillian did not like her - and what the Queen says goes. So, while Lilly was alive and ruling the roost, we had to keep Cabela separate (don’t worry, she had another doggy friend to keep her company…who you’ll meet soon too!)

Cabela lived with her family in our Lorida neighborhood. Unfortunately, after a messy split, her humans abandoned their house - and her. My kindhearted neighbors took turns feeding and checking on her for almost NINE MONTHS, not wanting to call animal control but not knowing what else to do. 

One night, we were taking Callie for a walk when Cabela came trotting down the street to join us. She walked the entire neighborhood with us and before we made it home, one of our neighbors came out to tell us her story. He asked if we would consider taking her in - so we opened the gate to see if we could get her inside. No convicting needed! She ran right in like she owned the place. 

Cabela is getting grey in the face and has some old lady arthritis in her hips. However, she was very much overweight when she moved in with us and as she’s dropped some pounds, her arthritis is improving. She’s also on joint supplements like the rest of the pack. She does have a growth on her lip that we are monitoring, but otherwise she is a very healthy girl. The neighbors guessed she was 8 or 9 but I would not be surprised if she is older. 

So, everyone say hi to Cabela and expect to see more of her from now on! 🖤💚
